Facebook group membership fees?
Announced yesterday in a blog post by Facebook, the site is going to begin letting group admins charge a monthly fee between $4.99 and $29.99 to become part of a Facebook group. They are currently testing this with some parenting and cooking groups in a bid to give group admins a reward for all the effort they put into running their groups. This can also give admins the funds to create better content. Facebook will take no cut of the subscription fee. Do you think paying to be part of a Facebook group would make it feel more exclusive, or would it just drive you away? Let us know! Read more here.
Facebook has announced that it is bringing some new features to its live video service. The new feature “Gamification” turns the live video into a game show with questions set by the video creator. Users can participate by answering the questions from predefined answers and are eliminated if they get the answers wrong – sounds like fun! Read more here.
Instagram’s new “IGTV” feature was officially confirmed and announced at an event in San Francisco, USA and has now started rolling out globally. The new IGTV feature will allow users to upload videos up to an hour in length and can be found by clicking on the IGTV button located at the top of the screen on your homepage (next to the direct messages icon). This feature is thought to help Instagram compete with YouTube by allowing users to post long-form videos and help creators to grow their audience and following. It is said that there will soon be an option for creators to monetise their videos, so that just like YouTube, money can be made from posting videos. The feature can also be accessed from its standalone app “IGTV” available on iOS and Android. It is important to note that you still cannot post videos longer than 60 seconds on your feed, only on your IGTV channel. Here’s more on the story.
